First stop was Vancouver, we passed through Kamloops, and the next stop is Jasper! The drive to Kamloops all in all took about six hours, and the drive from there to Jasper took about eight, simply because we stopped for food and photos along the way. Canada is full of beautiful scenery, so naturally we stopped at the overlooks when we could. We saw some beautiful waterfalls and wildlife as we traveled, however, it was rainy.
Friday, July 24: Once arriving in Jasper we went into town naturally searching for a Starbucks to soon find out there isn't one for over a hundred kilometres (they don't use miles here 😳 ). We went to a local coffee shop, which was better than Starbucks, and then headed to the hotel. We're staying at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in a nice waterfront cabin-like building. The water is absolutely amazing here when it's sunny. For dinner last night we tried the Italian restaurant at the hotel and we weren't very impressed. The menu was bare and lacking the classics, so I settled for a caesar salad which was oddly spicy. After dinner it was time for a hot tub (considering it's not even 60 degrees) and then time for bed.
Saturday, July 25:
Today we woke up, had breakfast, and walked around the property! We discovered the stables that are on site and admired the horses as well as signed up for a trail ride for tomorrow morning. After this we went into town again and had a delicious home cooked lunch at L&W Family Restaurant. Beef Barley soup and a BLT hit the spot on this rainy and cold day. Returning to the hotel again, I settled for a nap before some more adventuring around the lake before dinner! Trying another hotel restaurant that looks amazing (I spotted some truffle mac&cheese), I'll follow up afterwards of course. This is me following up: I had a Parmesan Stuffed Chicken Supreme with Asparagus topped with Hollandaise. Wow. This was an amazing meal, and by far the best I've had since I've been in Canada. Of course I tried the Truffle Mac and Cheese as well, again, another amazing side dish. For dessert I had a beautiful Hot Chocolate which was obviously photo worthy. After dinner we went for a drive where we saw an elk and a bear in the wild RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR CAR. Never again will I see a wild bear this close (I hope lol). With this, I'll go to sleep and dream of cute bears frolicking in the forest.
Sunday, July 26: GOOOD MORNING! We woke up bright and early today to go horseback riding on a trail around a few lakes! This was an amazing experience and the weather couldn't have been better. It was the warmest (63 degrees) and sunniest (only partly cloudy) it's been yet in Jasper. My horse was named Bugs (aka Bugsy) and was a spunky little fella. I love him. I could've stayed in the saddle all day! After this we had a yummy breakfast from the hotel and rested in the room a bit. At 2:30 I was scheduled for a very much needed pedicure (after abusing my feet dancing the past few weeks) which was wonderful! I had a paraffin wax included in it which made my feet so soft. It was too nice of a day to just sit in the room, so my mother and I walked around the property and picked up some gifts for loved ones (hi boyfriend). For dinner we decided on the 4.5 star restaurant on Yelp, Evil Dave's. The reviews made my mouth water, so I was sold.
Only one word: amazing. This meal was nothing short of out of this world. From the atmosphere to all three courses I was blown away. This definitely (and surprisingly) topped last nights meal. I started my meal with a Tortilla soup that was the best tortilla soup I've ever had. Next was the main course, and I decided on Chinese Lettuce Wraps (yes their menu was very diverse; my father had meatloaf). For dessert we shared a "Dream" cream puff trio that didn't disappoint. I've never been so happy to be full (food baby and all). Onto Banff tomorrow!😍
