Monday, July 27: 10 AM and we're on the road to Banff on half a tank of gas and 150 km until the nearest gas station. We passed several Avalanche areas which would terrify me to drive through if there was snow on the mountains. About 100 km in we passed the Columbia Ice Fields. I didn't have to get out of the car to take a picture or know how cold it was outside for there to be a field of ice that wasn't melting. Once we made it to the area that had a gas station (easily the busiest gas station I've ever seen) we grabbed some food from the sole cafeteria that existed in this town and charged $80 for three soups, two grilled cheeses, and an order of chicken fingers. Fun Fact: This cafeteria meal was more expensive than the dinner at Evil Dave's last night. I slept the rest of the ride and when we got into town we went straight to Starbucks to meet my aunt! From there it was back to the hotel (Hidden Ridge Resort) to check in! We went back downtown as soon as we were settled and spent an hour in Lululemon. This was easy the biggest Lulu I've ever been in and it changed my life. The prices were great and the selection was even better! I got a hoodie, some crops and a pair of everyday shorts. I think we're going back tomorrow! Dinner was at the Old Spaghetti Factory and it was quite good! I've been to one in Nashville so I knew what to expect. If there's one near you I recommend!
Tuesday, July 28: An early morning was to be had because there was a lot of adventuring to do! We stopped at Evelyn's Coffee Bar (amazing, I got the Strawberry Cupcake Cappuccino) before heading to Johnston's Canyon. Once we got there, we hiked 2.4 km to the Upper Falls to see all the sights and hiked back down. So many beautiful waterfalls and rivers to be seen there; not to mention the chipmunks! They're little hams. They know the people love them and they use that to their advantage. After our little hike there we drove to Lake Louise! The parking was absolutely ridiculous but we luckily found a spot. It couldn't have been a nicer day to go see the lake and take photos. We then went back to the hotel before dinner at Melissa's Missteak House. Very yummy food and extra yummy bread. This was quite a great day with the family and it's one I won't soon forget!
Wednesday, July 29: Today we woke up with no plans. We got up when we pleased and then made our way downtown (song reference) for some coffee and brunch. Coffee was from Evelyn's again, and brunch was from another little café called JK's. I had half an egg salad sandwich with a small cup of corn chowder. Very yummy! I always love cafés. We walked around some more and got various items from Roots, tea from David's Tea, and candy for friends and family from a local candy shop. I got a banana split tea latte from David's Tea and I've never had anything better. Its mostly Canadian, but there are some locations on both of the northern coasts. If you're lucky enough to have one near you, go at least twice a day for me. Thank you kindly. We were all quite exhausted from doing not much of anything, so we decided to head back to the resort for a nap. Dinner tonight was at Earls at an early dinner hour of 5:30. We had lunch at about 11, so we figured an early dinner would be a good idea so we could get back to pack up and rest before we leave tomorrow. I had a delicious bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup (I've been in a soup mood lately) which really hit the spot.
Overall, I had an amazing trip with my family, and I hope you enjoyed following me along this adventure! I'm excited to get back home, though and finish out the summer with some great friends. Until next time!
